Environmental Portrait : Natalie Nardozza

My subject is Natalie Nardozza, fine art student at Concordia University and graphic artist. Natalie published last year her first book from her own text story and drawings call “Dream Catcher vol.1” ISSN 1925-9328. She also produces prints and t-shirts of her art and takes commissions from the net. You can find her on “Deviant Art” under her pen name “Alexisneo “where she has 383,500 page views.

Environmental portrait 1 :

Raymond Nardozza-01.jpg / Available light only
ISO320  f1.8   1/125sec.
The shallow depth of field did not matter much because of the closeness of the painting behind the subject. A nice soft diffuse light is coming from the window from a snowy overcast day.

Environmental portrait 2 :

Raymond Nardozza-02.jpg / Ambient light with reflector
ISO200  f1.8  1/80sec.
A nice soft reflection due to the early morning overcast light coming from the window.

Environmental Portrait 3 : Allegory of the artist

Raymond Nardozza-03.jpg / Ambient and flash
Flash   ISO400    f5.6     1/125sec           Ambient   ISO400   f2.8     1/125sec
My goal here was to evenly light a full length allegoric scene of the subject of the art work looking over the shoulder of the artist.  I had to move the various elements of the composition many times to achieve a good result.  It was much easier to work on a close-up but I really wanted to show the comic book character from head to toe. I experiment with a 2 stops increment because of the use of an umbrella. A one stop difference was to dark.

F/6.3 0.4 seconds, ISO200, sRGB, Focal length 34.0 mm / Manual mode As I was going thru the library trying to capture the spirit of the building I reflected on the symbolism of the conversion of the edifice from a chapel to a library. And then I took this picture and it reminded me of the souls of the past looking down at the present. The old and the new, the darkness and the light, the antique and the modern. The nuns have been replaced by students but it is still a place of reflection and belief.
F/3.8, 1/250 seconds, ISO2800, sRGB. Focal length 22.0 mm / shutter priority mode I use some advice that I received from a sport photographer on this one. Shoot in .jpg only. Use shutter priority mode. Auto/ISO. A/F in Continuous mode and Dynamic area mode. Multiple shot mode. Instant playback review disable on camera. Custom WB. Because of the lack of light I also tried to capture the players at the moment where they stop in mid-air.
F/25.0, 30 seconds, ISO200, sRGB. Focal length 34.0 mm / Manual mode. I use a tripod and a long exposure to capture the richness of the lights on the building and keep the sky dark. The bigger f/stop made it that everything is sharp. I took several shots to get the cars lights streams and I picked this one over several that had mainly red color lights. I also like the way the light falls on the tree on the right.
